Counting Calories, Does It Work?

January 23rd, 2010

Reducing calories will not help you lose weight. Calories are not the enemy here. If you eat 2500 calories per day and reduce yourself to 1500 calories per day, you won’t necessarily lose weight. Your body will simply burn fewer calories. You will reach a dieting plateau. This means that you may lose a few pounds; however, once you reach a certain point, it will be impossible to lose weight.

How does a person typically begin a diet? Well, one day you look in the mirror and are disappointed with what you see. Your clothes are getting tighter and tighter. It’s just so frustrating. You put in a bit of an effort each day to no avail. There are people out there who eat the same, yet they don’t gain the weight. Do these affirmations sound familiar? On this day you are particularly frustrated and get angry enough that you decide to go on a diet.

Today is the day of new beginnings. You start by skipping breakfast and decide that you will have an early lunch, or brunch as they call it. Kill two birds with one stone. When it gets close to your next meal, all you can think about is food. You begin to get a little shaky as your body is not used to going this long without food.

You try to bravely tell yourself that you can do this, but you feel miserable. You want to lose weight but you don’t want to be a quitter. For lunch you decide to have something small or maybe a salad, but your stomach is telling you its “HUNGRY.” You are still convinced that eating less will get you to your goal.

By dinner time you have a headache and chances are you are hungry. Do you really want to go through this every day? But today, you are still motivated enough to say yes. You stick with this diet for the remainder of the evening.

If you’re brave then you may have held off for a week or two, chances are, you’ve gone back to your ways after only a few days. Usually diets link this end in some kind of binge which officially declares the end. Even if you were able to stick to it for a few weeks, you won’t have lost any significant weight. You may have even made it worse. Since your body thinks it was starving, it begins to absorb every calorie that enters it.

You may have lost a few pounds during this type of diet, but the weight that was lost is just water weight, not real fat loss. And all that water weight will be gained right back when you eat normal again.

This is why if you keep trying to starve yourself, you will never lose weight. Starving yourself is not the answer. If you are serious about weight loss, you need to start giving your body the right types of calories in the right doses on the right days.

Get Flat Abs Through Intense Workouts

January 23rd, 2010

Go hard or go home. Push yourself. Get flat abs by reaching for the sky. Emotional readiness plays a big role in developing six pack abs. When you are mentally ready to submit to the rigor of a healthy lifestyle, then and only then can you focus and stick to your plan of physically training and properly nourishing your body to reveal flat, muscular abs.

It takes tremendous effort and control to live a life of health and wellness because of the tougher choices they pose to you. Choices that may take more time out of your day and take more energy out of you. But when you have made up your mind to embrace this lifestyle, you will love it and love how it makes you feel.

When you have firmly decided upon getting fit, you need to cement that decision by making time for it and actually writing it into your daily schedule like you would for a business meeting or any other appointment. You need to give value to yourself and your health aspirations. Make that appointment with yourself. The first step to reaching a goal is writing that goal down and into your life.

Next, prepare a smart program of exercises you’ll be doing and proper nutrition plans. Exercise must include full body movements to work the body’s largest muscles, as they tend to burn more fat because more calories are needed to let these muscles function. Some examples include brisk walking, lunges, jogging, biking, push-ups and chin-ups.

Now it’s time to get creative by mixing these up into a routine. Doing 5 in a grouping continuously then resting a few minutes before doing the grouping continuously again 5 times in a row will challenge your body to its limits and increase fat burning. For example, cycle-push ups-speed walking-boxing-squats without resting in between, then after the squats, rest for 2 minutes before starting the cycle-push ups etc. again.

With the workout program in place, you now need to make time for healthy meals to round out your fitness plan. This takes serious time and energy commitment as most people nowadays settle for fast food conveniences, which saves time for you, but loads up your body with unnecessary, dangerous and aesthetically disgusting fats. Remember to load up on vegetables, fruits and lean proteins to get your six packs on the way.

It doesn’t hurt to get active assistance from your friends and relatives either. They can be the best people to keep you going when you’re feeling out of sorts because they know you best.

You shouldn’t expect anything less than reaching for the sky when it comes to getting flat abs. Go at it from all directions. Excellence and success in any endeavor is preceded by lofty dreams that are turned to reality by hard work and perseverance. It all starts with making time for that dream in your life, so go ahead, reach for the sky, get those flat abstoday.

Why Lap Band Weight Loss Surgery Has Become So Popular In Recent Years

January 22nd, 2010

For those who are overweight or obese and their health is at greater risk, traditional diet and exercise programs have been shown not to be helpful in getting an individual to drop excess pounds. In recent years, gastric banding also known as Lap-Band surgery as a method of weight loss has become increasingly popular for those suffering from obesity. The procedure involves placing a silicone band around the top portion of the stomach. It creates a small gastric pouch at the top of the stomach. The Lap-Band has an inflatable membrane and is attached to an access port. The band is then filled with saline solution to create restriction. It also decreases the amount of food a person is able to eat and causes one to feel full faster and satiated longer. Less food intake results in less calories consumed resulting in sustainable weight loss.

Lap-band surgery has become popular in recent years because it is a minimally invasive surgery with proven weight loss results and minimal side effects. As well, there is little scarring because the incisions where the lap band is inserted are so small. The surgery only takes about 45 minutes and the recovery period is very short. It is an outpatient procedure that is normally done in a private clinic setting. Most patients will return home a few hours after the surgery unless an obesity related health condition such as sleep apnea requires overnight monitoring.

One other important benefit of having this surgery is it is the only available reversible weight loss surgery. The lap band can be removed at any time and the stomach is restored to its original state. The best benefit of having this type of weight loss surgery is that it has shown to be an effective long term weight loss solution. With the assistance of a nutritionist, patients learn how consume foods that are better choices in order to lose weight. On average, Lap-Band patients will lose about 1-2 pounds per week. Some patients have been known to lose weight at an even faster rate.

Patients who are morbidly obese, that is with a BMI of 40+, or 30+ and who suffer from weight-related diseases such as Type II Diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea, are normally the most feasible candidates for the surgery. When one is being considered for the surgery, there is a screening process that includes consulting with a psychotherapist and medical tests.

Obesity has become a serious epidemic across the country and shows no sign of decreasing, especially with more children becoming overweight and will often become obese when they are adults. The diet industry is a multi billion dollar a year business showing very little positive results. For the morbidly obese, these diet schemes do not work so weight loss surgery has become a preferred choice. When people consider weight loss surgery such as Lap Band surgery, they should consult with a weight loss surgeon to determine if they are a viable candidate for the procedure.

Are you looking for a safe and effective way for weight loss? Perhaps the answer is Lap Band weight loss. Look for Lapband Canada for your options; perhaps you would even want to read up on a few Lapband blogs for research.

10 Easy Ways To Put Your Kids On A Healthy Diet

January 22nd, 2010

It is really not too difficult to turn your home into a healthy home.

Building a home which is healthy in the nutritional sense is the initial phase to securing the health of your children. You need to set the example by making intelligent food choices. This in turn will teach your children how to eat healthy.

Here are the top 10 tips for getting children to eat healthy food:

1. Make sure that you are not restricting food to your children. The restriction of food to children can be responsible for the development of eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia, later in life. Furthermore, it may stunt your children’s growth and development, as well as increase the risk of overeating later in the day. Overeating leads to weight gain.

2. Have healthy food in your home. Your kids will eat what is visible to them. Use this to your advantage. For instance, keep apples, oranges, bananas and pears in a bowl on the counter, not a drawer in the fridge. Also limit the empty calorie foods which you keep on hand. Doing this will teach your children how to select a healthier diet.

3. Try not to label foods as positive and negative. Conversely, you should associate foods with things that are important to your children. For example, educate your child on the importance that salmon plays in boosting cognitive abilities, and eggs play in providing high energy for sports performance.

4. Praise healthy choices. Give your children a proud smile and tell them how smart they are when they choose healthy foods. Kids thrive on positive reinforcement!

5. Try not to get down on your children for unhealthy choices. If it is not a frequent occurrence, let it slide. Conversely, if your children are always choosing to eat unhealthy foods, then you need to steer their choices in the right direction. Replace candy with dried fruit. Instead of fries, try roasting potato sticks with a little bit of olive oil in the oven. Eventually, your children’s eating habits will change for the good.

6. Never use food as a reward. This could create weight problems in later life. Instead, reward your children with something physical and fun — perhaps a trip to the park or a quick game of catch.

7. Make sure that you sit down and eat dinner as a family. This should become customary in your home if it is not already. The truth is that children who eat their dinner at the table with their parents not only eat more healthy, but are far less likely to get into trouble as teenagers.

8. Prepare plates in the kitchen. There you can put healthy portions of each item on everyone’s dinner plate. Your children will learn to recognize correct portion sizes. Too often people go for seconds and even thirds just because the food is right there. You might notice that you need less food to feel full!

9. It is okay to give your child a choice in what they like to eat, and what they do not like to eat. However, when they like something healthy, take full advantage. Serve healthy foods which your children enjoy more frequently, and offer them the foods which they dislike less frequently. This gives your children a voice in deciding what they eat.

10. Consultation with a pediatrician prior to changing your child’s diet is recommended, if possible. If your child does need to change their weight, then make sure that you consult the proper literary resources to receive the help that you need.

Fat Burning and Cellulite Treatment just all in one procedure

January 21st, 2010

Many people think that body fat and cellulite mean the same things, when they are actually different. Body fat comes from an intake of excess calories, and can be addressed with a healthy, low-calorie diet and some regular exercise. Cellulite is something else — even skinny women can get it, and sometimes no amount of exercise seems to get rid of the last bit of “orange peel” skin.

Cellulite is just fat and water accumulation under the skin, connective tissue stretching and swelling of the skin in certain areas. Cellulite affects particular areas such as thighs, arms, buttocks and abdomen, and can be very uncomfortable for some people. For them, cellulite creams and a healthy lifestyle, only much, and the only way seems to be an expensive operation or liposuction.

This is where mesotherapy comes in. This treatment is a relatively new cellulite treatment method — it is been practiced in South America and Europe for several decades, but only recently made it to other parts of the world. This treatment is a sort of “middle ground” cellulite treatment, since it is not just topical and it does not go as far as surgery.

At this meeting the reading specialist or spray a few quick, superficial injection of a mixture of medicine, cellulite affects the skin. Blend of vitamins, minerals, drugs, and even some plant ingredients, therapeutically. A mixture of the target cells of subcutaneous fat, which led to his death or release of blood fats available.

This treatment holds the potential to get rid of cellulite completely, even without the help of a balanced diet and regular workouts. As it burns the underlying fat, it also tightens and smooth-ens the skin above it, erasing any sign of cellulite after several sessions.Of course, every cellulite treatment has a downside. This treatment can be uncomfortable for people sensitive to needles, and the tight, pin-pricking sensation can stay with you for the rest of the day after a session. While most people will not feel a thing, it is still worth considering if your pain tolerance is not something to brag about.

This treatment can also be expensive — it can cost upwards to $400 per session, and you will need at least three sessions before you can see any substantial results. But to most people, this is often worth it — This treatment is very quickly gaining approval among cellulite specialists around the world.

Another downside to this treatment is that you will need to adopt a healthier lifestyle after you decide to stop undergoing sessions. Like most therapies, the effects will only stay with you as long as you stick with the program. This treatment is no different — if you want the effects to stay, you will have to find some sort of treatment that will keep up it is benefits long after you leave the clinic.

On the upside, more and more people are discovering the amazing efficiency of a few mesotherapy sessions. It is the fastest way to get rid of cellulite without going under the knife.
