Reduce Man Boobs Without Surgery

The clinical term for the growth of breast tissue in men is known as Gynecomastia, from the Greek ‘gyne’ meaning woman and ‘mastos’ meaning breast. Leaving ancient Greece for a moment, the condition is more commonly referred to as man boobs. There are different reasons behind the formation of man boobs, but the two primary causes are excess fat (the case with obese men) and hormonal imbalances.

Puberty is one of the natural times when man boobs can develop because of natural hormone disruptions. Sometimes adolescent boys will notice small lumps under or near their nipples and buddy breasts appear, but this usually goes away with the passage of time. Overweight boys are more susceptible but even active fit youngsters can experience breast development. No health risks are associated with this adolescent man boob growth, other than the social and psychological pain and stigmatisation that often goes with man boobs. Having man boobs as a teenager can often be very embarrassing and cause boys to shy away from sports and activities like swimming.

Other causes of man boobs can come from a hormonal reaction to different types of medications, too much alcohol (especially beer) taking methamphetamines and marijuana and even from illnesses like cancer or liver disease.

One source of man boobs has been causing somewhat of an epidemic and creates man boobs that are far more persistent and permanent, sometime leaving surgery as the only option to remove the male breasts. Of course it is anabolic steroid abuse, which is a huge cause of man boobs and is leading to increasing cases of the condition. Steroids wreak such havoc on your hormones that they cause man boobs far quicker and more drastically than natural hormonal fluxes. Man boobs that are resultant of steroid use are also more stubborn and if left untreated may actually develop into permanent tissue which can only really be removed by risky (not to mention hard on the hip pocket) male mamoplasty, which is not a great option for any man.

It is really not that uncommon for steroid using men (especially young men) to find that what they wanted to give them big strong bodies actually gave them feminine breasts, oh dear. Steroids really disrupt the balance of testosterone and estrogen in the body, and this is why breasts develop. Steroids work by inhibiting the body’s natural testosterone, so when a cycle is finished and a steroid user doesn’t put testosterone back in the system then huge levels of estrogen will cause buddy breast and feminine hips (lovely love handle!) to develop. Not exactly the look steroids users would be going for, but a result of steroids nonetheless.

After taking steroids it can take a while for the body’s natural testosterone production to begin again and even when it does and hormones go back to normal the breast that have formed often remain. This is one of the biggest differences in steroid induced man boobs – they are notoriously hard to eliminate.

There is one very easy solution, and that is to stay right away from steroids, and if you think about the other associated risk like shrunken testicles, looking like a stocking stuffed with tennis balls and our lovely flabby boobs there are plenty of good reasons to do so. Those who are determined to use steroids can try and stop breast development by taking estrogen blockers. These are often used by body builders, however these drugs have not been fully studied, so there may well be other side effects of these blockers which will cause another unsightly syndrome.

There are plenty of ways to try and reduce man boobs, and if you have man boobs and have never used steroids then you are just months away from having a manly toned chest once more, because male breast are totally treatable given the right natural remedies and lifestyle and diet changes. For those with man boobs as a result of steroids, don’t think surgery is the only way, try as many natural ways of eliminating your man boobs for good before opting for costly and risky surgery that might not even solve the problem.
